Raising Strong and Successful Girls
3-night workshop

For parents of girls, ages 7-12. Through this class, parents of tweens and preteens will learn about girls' psychological development, how cliques work, and how parents and girls can deal effectively and compassionately with difficult peers. Plus, how the modern media is changing our daughters’ self-perceptions and what parents can do about it. Parents will leave with practical ideas on nurturing their daughter's  confidence, the role of fathers in girls’ well being, and the latest research on how sports and extracurriculars affect girls now and in adulthood.

Friendship and Cliques: A Primer for Parents

Understanding the nature of cliques is critical for parents of preteen girls. Learn about the social function of cliques, the roles girls play in cliques,  and what to do when cliques turn negative. This workshop provides parents specific techniques on how to coach your daughter effectively and compassionately when she faces negative group behavior. Includes: spotting signs of trouble-makers, dealing effectively with problem peers, teachable moments in the preteen and teen years.

Relational Aggression

Boys and girls may aggress differently.  Girls may use "relational aggression" (gossip, exclusion, friendship blocking) more frequently during the preteen and teen years. Relational aggression is confusing and upsetting to both parents and girls. By naming it and identifying its forms, parents will understand the toll it takes on girls' well-being. Parents will learn techniques to help a daughter deal courageously with relational aggression.  Also: concrete strategies to coach her to stand up for herself effectively. Become a more empowered parent through this workshop.

Media Images and Girls' Body Esteem

Our modern media is more saturated with sexuality and violence than ever. How does this affect how girls view themselves?  How does it affect their peer relationships, romantic relationships, and future potential? Learn about the very latest research on our sexualized media, and the impact it has on the development of healthy body esteem, and healthy (consensual, informed, delayed) sexuality.  Substitutions are the solution.

Creating a Strong Father-Daughter Relationship

A positive father-daughter relationship provides lifelong benefits for girls and women. Girls who report they enjoy spending time with their father are more likely to do well academically, are less likely to end up in an abusive relationship, and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors such as abusing alcohol or driving recklessly. Learn some concrete techniques for connecting with your daughter, communicating with her positively, and finding activities that you can enjoy together. Fun, upbeat, and realistic, this is a favorite workshop among dads.
